Charity Shop DJ Launches Derby Record Holders Project An Invitation to Take Part
Charity Shop DJ is an international music project run by the Derbyshire-based artist Andy Jupp. Its aim is the strengthening and celebration of communities. Andy’s work uses music as a means of communication and dialogue across generations, communities and sectors. The work has taken him from charity shops and old peoples homes to the Houses of Parliament and Jammu and Kashmir. Charity Shop DJ's work has been widely covered by radio, television and press. For details click here. From January to May 2009, the Derby Record Holders project will see a series of music workshops with community groups and individuals across the city, where people will be invited to share their musical choices with one another. Stills photography and film footage will be produced which will become part of an exhibition in Derby Museum in Summer 2009. It will also form a key part of a major new World Record Holders project in the run up to 2012. By communicating these choices with each other, it is hoped that people of different ages and backgrounds across the city will understand something new about one another in a spirit of equality and respect. Andy is already working with schools and pensioner groups in Derby, and has performed at Quad and other venues in the city.
