Welcome to charityshopdj.com, the site of Charity Shop DJ and the EasyAction Sound System

Throughout Oxjam 2006, Charity Shop DJ did the rounds of Oxfam shops around the East Midlands, playing spontaneous sets with the records he found there. During his trip he unearthed many long forgotten gems, and unsuspecting shoppers were surprised to hear their favourite - and not so favourite - tracks. Many vowed to retrieve their record players from the attic to give those charity shop tunes a spin.

At the Grantham shop, Charity Shop DJ was joined by DJ Ricky Tabla from Shropshire, the newest member of the EasyAction Sound System.

Saturday 21 October was Diwali and Charity Shop DJ played a special set outside the Sherwood shop accompanied by Alison K on the accordion.  The warm sunshine brought out many local characters - including the community police - and many enjoyed a dance outside the shop. A big hello to Jimmy of Sherwood!

Here are extracts from a couple of letters which have recently been sent in by Oxfam staff:

"...Thank you very much for making time to come and DJ in our shop.....I can honestly say what a lovely time was had by all, and the effect you had on those involved was amazing......I expected the normal response that folk have cupboards of vinyl but it was so nice to hear people being encouraged to go and play their old records. The case of the elderly couple who live in different parts of the house keeps coming back to mind. His determined expression when he said he was going home to play his old records whether she liked it or not was a classic. It is sad to think that so much music is now left untouched with the advent of all day TV. I hope that the event does go some way to encourage folk to listen to music again......"

Manager, Oxfam Shop, Alfreton

"I am writing with a big thank-you.........for coming to Grantham and livening up our shop today with your (or rather our) music. It really was good to hear some of our records played on your high-tech equipment, and customers as well as staff clearly enjoyed some of their favourite tunes and some musical trips down memory lane....For Oxfam this was a great opportunity to publicise the fact that we have a thriving music department in this shop. We are all looking forward to seeing you sometime next year..."

Vol Shop Manager, Oxfam, Grantham

Many thanks to all the staff and volunteers in the shops for making our visits so much fun (and for the tea) - and to Paul, Ed and Katie at Oxfam for organising it all.
