Charity Shop DJ has teamed up with Dr Matt
Connell of Nottingham Trent University to help bridge the generation
gap through a shared love of music
Welcome to Talking About
Old Records
What?
Talking About Old Records is an
intergenerational music project bringing teenagers and pensioners together
through a range of intergenerational DJ workshops, intergenerational
music workshops, and performances
How?
Working with charities, local
authorities, community groups and schools, the project uses our
shared love of music to foster real communication across the
generations
Why?
The music people are into may be very
different, but whatever the style and whatever the format, the love
of music can bring people together
"All I'm asking is for a little respect. Find out what it
means to me" Aretha Franklin
Unambiguous joy. I've never seen such
diversity (Richard Talaska, Older People's Consultancy Officer,
Derby City Council)
Soon we started talking about music and we realised a lot of today’s
music is in the same style as the older music. It’s just different
bands singing the tunes [Libby, 13]
We're throwing a Surprise Party -
and you're invited!!

Staveley Pilot Project
This exciting project
was piloted in the summer of 2007 in the ex-coalfields communities
of Staveley and Killamarsh. Members of the Staveley Seniors Forum
mashed it up with young people from the Aurora Music Project and
created North East Derbyshire's first intergenerational sound
system.
