One 8 saw the launch of the Cultural Olympiad in Nottingham where the newest members of the Easy Action Sound System joined Charity Shop DJ and Dr Matt of Nottingham Trent University for an intergenerational mash-up

Over the course of September, Charity Shop DJ and Dr Matt have been working with kids from the Bemrose school in Derby, and with older people from community groups in the city, to find out how music can be a tool of communication between the generations.

On 27th September 2008, these newest members of the Easy Action Sound System made the journey to Nottingham to play together for the first time at One8.

They played records, re-enacted album covers, and generally mixed it up. Find out what happened here

Celebrating a brand new arts venue for Derby

The Cultural Olympiad in Derby

So much to celebrate. The opening of QUAD, a new arts venue 'to rival any in Europe' (The Guardian), the launch of the cultural Olympiad, and the launch of the new Charity Shop DJ Derby Record Holders project. All in one.

Charity shops across the city brought their vinyl into QUAD as we celebrated a slice of Derby’s past in the newest building in town. The night of mash-ups and get downs featured Charity Shop DJ, Subism, and Addictive TV.

Charity Shop DJ is teaming up with the marvellous folk at All Our Hearts Content to celebrate our love for charity shops and second hand treasures. A fantastic time was had at the Age Concern shop in Pudsey on 12 July where unsuspecting shoppers were treated to a feast of forgotten vinyl and free cake. It was all part of the I Love West Leeds festival.
