Charity Shop DJ, in collaboration with Derby Museum, created a special space for the Vintage Festival titled "Down the Back of the Sofa." This unique area was designed for rediscovering the elements that define us—those often lost or forgotten treasures that, when found, are always welcomed back.
Situated in the big bar on the 4th floor (Blue Side) of the Royal Festival Hall, the space was adorned with museum artefacts, charity shop finds, and a touch of mischief.
An interactive experience where attendees dipped for unexpected items and transformed them into personal works of art.
Legendary events where the audience decided the playlist, featuring resident DJs Dr Matt, Mistah Toe, and Charity Shop DJ, along with special guests.
"One of the most fun nights I've had out in ages. Totally ego free" - Leigh Maclea, Vintage party goer 2010Charity Shop DJ had the pleasure of welcoming cult DJs Kate Wildblood and Queen Josephine to "Down the Back of the Sofa." They delivered exclusive sets filled with tracks that, while perhaps too uncool for mainstream compilations, held significant personal and cultural value. These were the tunes discovered in charity shops, inherited collections, or left behind in the digital switchover—songs that soundtracked lives and evoked memories of love, escape, and self-discovery.
Maison Foo's Mobile Library docked at the Vintage Festival, inviting attendees to delve into memory-filled drawers and add their own stories to the collection. This interactive experience encouraged visitors to engage with the past in a tactile and meaningful way.
Presented by 1623 Theatre Company of Derby, this British premiere revived the classic family game of the 70s with a Shakespearean twist. Participants exchanged playful insults like "Thou roguish hedge-born maggot-pie!" while engaging in spirited matches, bringing literature and fun together in an innovative performance.
